The vigilance and swift response of members of Lwandle police’s Crime Prevention Unit last week resulted in the arrest of two men who were in possession of unlicensed firearms.

The two men were also found in possession of live rounds of ammunition on Friday evening (28 September).

According to Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for Lwandle police, the officers carrying out routine patrols when they heard gunshots ringing from Mgidlana street in Asanda Village.

They immediately approached the area and managed to corner the two men and proceeded to search them. “During the search, the officers found one suspect with a Taurus firearm, of which the serial number had been filed off,” Gama said.

The other suspect was in possession of a VZOR70 9 mm pistol with live ammunition.

When the men were questioned about the firearms, they were unable to provide firearm licences, Gama added. The men, aged 30 and 31, were arrested for the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

The acting station commander applauded officers for their excellent work.
