The Teachmaling Women’s Project will on Saturday November 26 present Miss Round Figure Western Cape finals at Gugulethu Sports Complex from noon until late.

Pageant ambassador Wendy Mpontsane said the participants were all geared up to walk away with the crown.

“All the fourteen participants have been taken through their paces and they will grace the stage on the day,” said Wendy. She said the project was aimed at building confidence among largely built woman.

“Big women often get ostracized because of their weight and we are telling them it can be cool to be a thick chick,” said Wendy.

The last 14 remaining contestants were chosen during a fashion gig aptly dubbed “Plus Size Fashion Show” at Lower Crossroad Community Hall in October.

“The response was amazing and people present told us they liked the confidence displayed by these women,” said Wendy.

Pageant founder Ntesh Ndwande said she was looking forward to the finals.

“These gorgeous women have put a lot of work into this and the deserve a lot of encouragement,” said Ntesh.

“There will be loads of entertainment performances by local artists,” she said.

“Come join us and witness Thick Madame on stage on Heels. Come and say sdudla umuhle,” she said.

“Ladies who are interested in taking part can come to the event and sign up for the next year as we will be continuing with this event next year. We are raising funds so that we can’t start a roadshow where we will spreading the word of self-love to young children,” said Ndwandwe. She also invited men to come to the event and take part in one way or the other. “Yes, we want the gents to come as well. Everyone is invited to the event the more the merrier,” said Ndwande.
