Local poets are invited to take part in the Poetry in McGregor festival’s Voices on Fire poetry competition.
The festival takes place from Friday 26 to Sunday 28 August where a range of poets, including James Matthews, Patricia Schonstein, Kobus Moolman, Koos van der Merwe and the Lingua Franca Spoken Word Movement, among many others, will be performing at interesting venues around McGregor with open mic sessions taking place at the Hugh Hodge.
Aspiring Afrikaans, English and Xhosa poets have until 16:00 on Friday 22 July to enter the Voices on Fire competition. Poets over the age of 19 have the chance to win a cash prize of R7 500 while younger poets between the ages of 13 and 19 can compete for R2500 in book vouchers and a trophy.
The finalists may have the opportunity to have their poetry published in the annual Poetry in McGregor Anthology and their winning entries will be read during the Poetry in McGregor weekend.
