Efforts by the Nyanga police in their fight against crime has yielded more positive results over the weekend, with the arrest of several people for various crimes, ranging from business robbery, house robbery, possession of mandrax tablets and the possession of stolen property.

Four other suspects, aged between 22, 23, 27 and 37 were arrested on Monday 14 February at about 02:45 for the possession of an illegal firearm.

They were arrested by members of the crime prevention unit during a vehicle control search operation.

Members recovered a .38 special revolver with five rounds in Eisleben Road in Crossroads.

A further two suspects aged between 29 and 32 were arrested for a house break-in at Dimbaza Street, Browns Farm.

The break-in had taken place on Thursday. It is alleged the suspects, who were armed, forcefully entered the house and demanded cellphones, money and a television set.

In a separate incident, a 21 year old suspect was arrested for a business robbery. The accused allegedly robbed a spaza shop of airtime and cigarettes in Boston Road in Browns Farm.

Two other suspects aged 23 and 29 were arrested for the possession of mandrax tablets on Sunday evening at Sinqolamthi Street, Browns Farm.

Members of the Provincial Intervention Team based in Nyanga arrested the suspects during a vehicle patrol when they stopped and searched a Toyota Quantum with two occupants.

They recovered 100 mandrax tablets. The last suspect, aged 24 was arrested in possession of stolen property. They will appear in court this week.
