Police bust illegal guns

In an attempt to reduce the circulation of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, Khayelitsha police arrested two suspects for possession of an illegal firearm.

The were also allegedly found in possession of ammunition and a hijacked vehicle­.

Police were on vehicle patrols in Pama Road, Khayelitsha on Friday 22 June at 20:00 when they spotted a white Hyundai Accent with three occupants.

As police tried to flag down the vehicle, the suspects sped off instantly.

As the vehicle chase ensued the suspects lost control and hit a fixed object.

Police managed to apprehend two suspects, the other managed to escape.

Police recovered a .22 special revolver, loaded with one bullet, and two spent cartridges­.

Further investigation revealed that the vehicle had been hijacked in the Lingelethu West area earlier in June.

Both suspects, aged 31 and 34, have been arrested on related charges and have appeared in court.
