Following the shooting and killing of police Constable Siyamcela Ncipa in Khayelitsha in August, Harare police believe they have made a breakthrough in the case after recovering a firearm that belonged to him.

Ncipa was shot in August and his firearm stolen.

Police spokesperson Captain Siyabulela Vukubi said police received information on Tuesday 2 December around 01:00 and proceeded to search premises at 60 Block in Kuyasa, Khayelitsha.

Police also confiscated two mandrax tablets. A 34-year-old man was arrested for the possession of unlicensed firearm and mandrax.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon.

Vukubi said police investigation will determine if the suspect was involved in the killing of Ncipa. No further information was available at the time of going to print.
