For a moment, the memory of the shuffling iconic statesman flashed in the minds of the eldery Mandela Park citizens when police came to entertain them in his honour.

Harare Saps spokesman Captain Siyabulela Vukubi said they visited Mzamomhle Senior Club to spend their “67 minutes” with the inmates there.

“It was an emotional moment for most of them, they started songs that reminded them of Madiba, they even tried the Madiba shuffle,” he said.

Captain Vukubi said they addressed crime issues affecting the elderly and after the brief interaction, the senior citizen were treated to a massage and feet washing. “ Once the pampering began you could see joy in their faces. We also served them with lunch,” he said.

Lieutenant Colonel Nomvuyo Velaphi said she was touched to see the senior citizens in such a happy mood.

“They are very active for their age and I wish our communities can protect and love them,” she said.
