Philippi East police have made significant strides in their fight against crime.

On Monday, they embarked on a foot patrol in the embattled Marikana.

At least four people were arrested for possession and dealing in drugs during the raid. All the suspects appeared in court on Tuesday.

Spokesperson Captain Bheki Xulu said members conducted stop and search campaign. They also searched several houses in the area.

The suspects included a 58-year-old woman. She was arrested for a possession of 98 mandrax tablets and a flat screen television set. An undisclosed amount of cash was also found in her house.

A 34-year-old man was also arrested for dealing in dagga. About 20 stoppers and one parcel of dagga were found in the bag inside his house, in Mavundla Street.

Another suspect, a 38-year-old man was arrested in Hlankomo Street, in Lower Crossroads. The man was stopped and searched by the police. A total of 11 small packets of tik were discovered in his waist.

The fourth suspect was arrested as he ran into his house, after seeing the police in Marikana.

Xulu said police followed the man and found 163 small packets of tik in a plastic bag hidden in the house.

Police request the public to come forward with information if they suspect criminal activity in their vicinity, or may know the whereabouts of sought suspects. They may contact CRIMESTOP 08600 10111 or Philipp-East SAPS 021-370 1900.
