Lwandle police together with the local Community Policing Forum (CPF) held an imbizo in Asanda Village on Wednesday 18 April. The meeting, led by CPF chairperson Siyabonga Macaula and attended by Asanda Village residents, aimed at introducing the Lwandle police station commander to the Asanda Village community. The meeting also sought to forge and establish the relationship between the community and the police. Lieutenant Colonel Xolani Williams, the Lwandle station commander, addressed the community and issued an appeal for them to work with the police in curbing crime in the Lwandle policing precinct. He further shortly painted the picture of crime in the area and the challenges the police face, and urged the community to play a role in fighting crime. Macaula stressed the importance of partnerships in fighting crime in the Lwandle area.Constable Mkhuliuli Mawela, sector commander for Asanda Village, revealed his plan of re-establishing the Sector Crime Forum (SCF) committee structure at the gathering. The forum, he explained, will work closely with the police to fight crime. He highlighted one of the duties of committees which is to initiate SCF monthly meetings to discuss crime-related matters. Sergeant Mthokozisi Gama, spokesperson for Lwandle police, also addressed domestic violence cases reported daily and appealed to the community to make use of the available service providers to sort out domestic related matters in their homes, rather than resorting to violence. Gama also distributed domestic violence pamphlets in a bid to educate the community about domestic violence.
