Police nab 12 suspects in Nyanga

A total of 12 suspects were arrested in Nyanga over the weekend for various crimes.

Four of the suspects aged 17, 18, 19 and 37 are to appear in the Athlone Magistrate Court on Tuesday for house breaking and theft charges.

It is alleged that the suspects broke in to a house in Woodbaai, Philippi and stole a plasma television, DVD player, bedding, five handbags and other electrical appliances.

The other two male suspects, a 42-year-old and a 50-year-old, appeared in Philippi Magistrate Court on charges of assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm.

They were arrested for assaulting their partners.

Meanwhile, three other suspects (two women and a man) were arrested for assaulting another woman. They accused the woman of having an affair with their friend’s boyfriend. It is alleged that one of the women fired four shots at the complainant but missed her.

The three are aged 22, 26 and 28 will appear in Athlone Magistrate Court facing charges of attempted murdered and assault grievous bodily harm.

Two other women aged 20 and 21 are also expected to appear in court once charged on assault and robbery charges.
