Police warning to residents

2018-09-27 06:02

Police are warning Lwandle community members to be more aware of the crime that occurs in the area and to be more vigilant about ensuring their safety at all times.

They are also urged to join forces with the police and be the eyes and ears, reporting crime they see taking place in their midst.

Police spokesperson Sgt Mthokozisi Gama says the Lwandle police and Community Policing Forum (CPF) are more than willing to forge partnerships with local communities to assist in better policing of the area.

He said most of the crime taking place in the area is being committed by local known criminals.

“Therefore the police appeal to the community to report such people and report crime incidents,” Gama said. “When reporting they can remain anonymous.”

Members of the public are urged to call the station on 021 845 2060, or they can dial 082 522 1206, since there are often problems with the lines.

Alternatively, they can call police’s 10111 centre only in a case of emergency. This is a 24-hour crime reporting call centre which deals with complaints by the public.

The calls can be made on a landline, as these are free, or from a cellphone, where calls are charged at a normal cellphone rates. All calls are recorded.

Lwandle community members who wish to liaise directly with Lwandle police management can use the following numbers: Lwandle Station Commander: Lieutenant Colonel Xolani Williams 082 522 1916, visible policing head Captain JP du Toit 082 5222 696 or detective head Captain Andrew Geldenhuys 082 469 7719.
