Every action in the world has a direct bearing in the development of our children.

It is obvious that children are born into this world, and all they become is a true reflection of what this world is like.
Changing the world is about a change of approach in the way we teach and influence the development of our children.

The education system is the key factor if we are genuine enough to re-make the world; and not forgetting that “It takes a village to raise a child”, as the old adage goes.

“The Bridge” is a school program designed and developed to assist, support, and inject a better sense of self-motivation and practical skills-set in the learners, starting from Grade 7 until they reach matric.

We strongly believe that a stronger and a better sense of self-motivation plays a big role in influencing a learner’s performance in class, bearing in mind that public schools are dominated by learners that come from very low-income families with varying circumstances.

Since most learners come from broken families, they are bound to become less inspired in their studies.

In the absence of a bridging programme from Grade 7 to secondary schools, “The Bridge” is an attempt to close that gap by transmitting practical knowledge and skills to instil a better sense of self within the learners.

Furthermore, considering the matric pass rate, we have noted that a great number of learners would have dropped out in the process.

The applied teaching method is such that only those learners that appear to know better are given more attention or focus.

As a result, only learners with courage make it through to matric and tertiary level.

In view of this, “The Bridge” aims to target mainly those learners that show poor performance in class.

We recently started a pilot programme with Moshesh Primary School in Langa, and are looking at the process of roping in Thembani Primary school too. This program will come with a plan through which we carry on working with the learners until they reach matric, as in “holding their hands while crossing the bridge”.

Extra-classes which will be conducted by University students and volunteers from the community are also in the pipeline.

This program is inspired by the belief that “every learner possesses the ability to excel in their studies.”

This is all about liberating their minds and keeping them busy so they don’t wander aimlessly, becoming the devil’s playground. For more information, please call Belinda: 0783789942 or 0763870116.
