Rapist arrested after 23 cases reported

2016-05-12 06:00

A 33-year-old man linked to 23 cases of rape was arrested in the Epping Industrial area in Cape Town on Tuesday, Western Cape police said.

The suspected was identified by the SA Police Service Forensic Laboratory.

He was arrested after an extensive investigation conducted over five years. The rapes took place in the Delft and Khayelitsha areas.

“The modus operandi that the suspect would follow is to approach his victims and threaten them,” police said.

“He would then rob them of jewellery and money. The victims were between the ages of 18 and 28 years.” The man was expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday. Two people were previously questioned after the community alleged that they were involved but could not be linked to the rapes. Police are asking anyone with information to call the helpline 0860010111.
