Respect other road users

The killing of traffic cops by speeding motorists is becoming a norm.

On Friday, a traffic officer was run over by a motorist in Schoeman’s Kloof, Mpumalanga.

The incident occurred just days after two Jo’burg Metro cops were killed by a speeding, drunk driver at a roadblock.

Such drivers are criminals!

A sober motorist in a roadworthy vehicle would never run away from traffic cops.

Law-abiding citizens have nothing to fear. I’m sure most of us agree some traffic officers are a pain in the neck.

If you’ve been driving for more than a few months, a traffic cop has probably asked you for a bribe.

As unlawful as that is, they don’t deserve to die like dogs. We need to protect them because they keep motorists safe.

Can you imagine what roads would look like if there were no metro cops? Bumper-to-bumper traffic and lawlessness would become a part of everyday life.

Although some traffic cops only care about bribes, let’s appreciate those who serve with pride.

If you think traffic officers are useless, wait until they down tools. Without them, our roads would be chaotic.

Just follow the rules of the road and you won’t have anything to worry about.
