LETTER: Riches do not benefit citizens

2016-12-15 06:02

The struggle continues in our motherland. It’s a country blessed with beauty and the wonders of creation.

The soil is fertile, the leaves are green, the streams are flowing.

Indeed it’s a home and a shelter to many people who find hope and comfort here. It has the resources to cater for the children of its soil.

Many people struggled and some died for freedom, but until this day the children of the soil are struggling to have shelter and to put a decent meal on the table. South Africa has been through a lot.

Our motherland is bleeding and in pain because her children haven’t tasted the sweetness of her fruit as she intended. The sound of these words is like music in their ears: democracy, equality, empowerment and rights. But these words are mere promises. What is democracy without justice? What is equality without empowerment? What are rights without restitution? What is life without economic freedom?

Solomon Mahlangu said: “My blood will nourish the tree that will bear the fruit of freedom. Tell my people that I love them. They must continue to fight.”

The struggle for economic freedom, dignity and the sweet fruit of our motherland continues. The love of the children of the soil will bring forth unity and power. We are descendants of warriors, we come from a lineage of fighters.
