Nyanga police have finally nabbed a wanted suspect accused of being part of a string of robberies in Vlei and Ekuphumleni in Samora Machel.

The 38-year-old was arrested in the early hours of yesterday in KTC after investigations linking him to the robberies.

“On 22 January at about 11:40 the suspect and two accomplices, with one carrying a firearm, entered a house and instructed the occupants to get into the bedroom and cover themselves with a blanket.

The suspects then started removing a flat screen TV, a sound system, lap top, and shoes,” said police spokesperson Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi.

She said that while the culprits were conducting the robbery, a cousin of the family entered the hose and he too was robbed of his tablet and sent to the bedroom.

“They locked them inside the house, loaded the loot in a white Avanza without registration numbers.

The suspects were targeting houses during the day and in one case they pretended to be looking for someone or a place to rent.

Once they were inside they would start robbing the occupants. The two outstanding suspects are still sought and detectives are following leads which might lead to more arrests,” she said.

The suspect is expected to appear in Athlone Magistrate Court this week on house robbery charges.
