It was a dream come true for Sanda Matshayana, 11, after he received the gift of a guitar he has always hankered for.

Matshayana, from Mfuleni received the guitar on Friday, thanks to Goal Supermarket in the area.

The retailer was celebrating two decades in the area.

Matshayana, who suffers from Short Bowel Syndrome and was given only a few months to live, said he was excited about the gift.

His mother Khayakazi Macozoma reported that her son was “madly in love with the guitar” and seemed to live for it.

“He started practising from the moment he received it.

He is still disappointed though that Lusanda Mcinga could not attend the handover ceremony.

Mcinga was reportedly attending the funeral of one of her group members on the day.

“We as parents sometimes force our children to study to be doctors or other professions and forget that we have to guide them through their dreams and talents,” Macozoma said.

City Vision first published Matshayana’s story in September during which time he was visited by his gospel idol, Mcinga at the Vincent Pallotti Hospital in Pinelands, which was one of his dying wishes.

Mcinga’s trip to the city was paid for by Bonginkosi Madikizela, MEC for Human Settlements.

Lwando Dandala, marketing manager at the supermarket, said the donation was part of their duty to help those in the community who were in need.
