Say no to vigilantism - police

Philipp-East police officers are calling all stakeholders and communities to stand against vigilantism.

About fourteen people have been murdered since May till present in the policing precinct of Philippi-East and the community are not backing off this terror action. The police are taken serious steps investigating cases.

This vigilante murders reported in all areas of Philippi-East including Marikana, Island, Marcus Garvey, Lower Cross Road and Better life. Deceased are being alleged of performing criminal activities involve housebreaking and theft and street robbery. Most of these people are boys between the early ages of 20’s and killed in a terror and horrible way by being stoned and burned to death in front of family or relative at some point. Three out fourteen deceases are reported unknown and police request public assistance, on Sunday 2016-05-08 at about 18:50 an unknown black man of early 20’s was found by the police stone to death at Sikhova Street, Lower Cross Road. Another incident was on 2016-08-11 at about 18:50 when police were called to attend incident in New Eisleben Road in Better Life. On police arrival an unknown black man at his 20’s who was certified dead at the later stage by ambulance.

Latest, on Sunday (2016-09-11) at about 11:00 police were called to attend to an unknown body of a man in his 20’s burnt in Marikana informal settlement who has been alleged of robbing people and it is alleged community members killed him.

All incidents of some sort, community members are not willing to assist police with information, this behaviour will not be tolerated however thoroughly investigation will be done and suspects will be brought forward for prosecution. Police are calling all relevant stakeholders and community leaders to work together with them to stop and curve this challenge in the community.
