Security guard killed in Philippi East

A security guard was killed in Philippi on Wednesday 29 January.

Philippi East police station spokesperson Capt Bheki Xulu confirmed the incident in Marcus Garvey, Philippi East.

He said at around 07:30 two Fidelity Security guards were escorting a bread delivery truck when three unknown armed men started shooting at them. Police found the deceased, a 37-year-old man who was also the driver, with multiple gunshot wounds. Nine cartridges were also found on the scene.

The passengers managed to retaliate by firing a few shots during the attack. The suspects fled on foot. He said the other guards were unharmed and nothing was taken from them. Anyone with information can contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or 021 370 1900.
