Seeking young, active citizen

2018-02-08 06:00

A network of about 2500 young people across South Africa is recruiting active citizens between the ages of 20-30 years to join their ACTIVATE! Change Drivers campaign.

These young people will be citizens with an inherent passion for changing the narrative of young people as they are perceived as lazy and passive, with no desire to contribute meaningfully to the activities aimed at improving this country.

With daily negative and shocking statistics that effectively demoralize the youth, such as unemployment, lack of access to resources, the lack of meaningful stakeholder engagements aimed at making local government work, it therefore calls for a dedicated group of young citizens who will attempt to attend to such needs.

Zilungile Zimela, Communications Manager at The ACTIVATE! Change Drivers, said the program is designed to connect young people to other people in the country, doing meaningful work with the aim of challenging the status quo. It is aimed at provoking and guiding conversations that lead to a robust discourse to pave the way to a more unified and socially/economically inclusive country. Through the program, they aim to influence, inspire and equip young people to recognize their strength and wealth of power.

Zimela said the identification of societal ills will in turn lead to solutions and interactions stakeholders, the media, funders, resources, decision makers to collectively create a future worthy of our longing.
