Nomonde Ningiza (46) sells booze in her tavern in Khayelitsha but she makes sure children in the area have some soft drinks. Young children from the area were her tarvern is knows her birthday because she always do something for them. It’s not always on her birthday but whenever she got the chance—she has already become a favourite friend of young and the old in Khayelitsha. “I love young children—in this area on my birthday, I throw a party and invite young children. I know what they want—I buy cold drinks and sweets even braai for them,” said. Children from kasi pass by Monde’s Place, whenever they are hungry, Nomonde always give them something to eat especially those whose parents can’t afford to buy food to carry to school. Both the elderly and children of Khayelitsha love Nomonde because of her love to kids. For the elders who love beer, she sells it to them but she does not encourage children to drink that are why she always buys soft drinks for them. She opened her tavern Monde’s Place in 2000. “I just used my name as the name of my business, ” she said. “As any other business it is tough but I’m glad people always support me,” she said.On Youth Day she treated the kids with goodies. She gave them sweets, chips and hotdogs and meet. “They will not be tempted to and steal these things if they know that we give as their mothers,” she said. Ningiza said there are children whose parents cannot afford to buy them such small things and she feels good to be there for those children. “It’s always my wish to see happy children,” she said. Her love to children attracts more customers to her business. It does not end on there, Ningiza also invite motivational speakers to encourage children on the importance of education and encourage them to shun beer and drugs.
