Creative and innovative trendsetting youths are being sought to be part of the Bata South Africa Youth Board of Directors.

School-going children aged 8 to 16 – in Grades 4 to 11 – can be part of the shoe brand’s initiative, which aims to tap into their creativity and vibrancy to drive customer satisfaction.

It will guide Bata SA’s fashion philosophy, ensure youth appeal and unpack what youth really want and need from a pair of shoes.

Twenty-one learners will be appointed to the board, with seven members from the regions of Cape Town, Durban and Johannesburg being selected.

“We really believe that these new ‘directors’ will help us see the same things through renewed eyes, with a fresh perspective,” explained Swastika Juggernath, Bata SA marketing manager.

“We are looking for an edge to deliver tailor-made and market-desired shopping experiences for our customers.”

Successful board members will each receive: . Toughees school shoes for the year;. Tomy Takkies in three different styles or colours;. another Bata brand of shoes;. a personalised Bata SA Youth Board of Directors business card;. a director’s uniform shirt and fun T-shirt;. a tablet with data for the duration of the tenure;. stationery;. reading books and e-books;. online courses to help with schoolwork; . a powerful “real-life” learning experience;. transport to and from board meetings for members and a parent or guardian; . a reference letter at the end of the tenure signed by the managing director of Bata SA; and. R2 500 towards school fees or a donation to their school if all tasks are successfully completed.

The board members will be expected to be mini ambassadors for the brand from July to December, wear Bata products to school and socially, to get maximum experience of the product and share suggestions, content and concepts.

They must also attend “board” meetings three times a year during school holidays.

To enter, all eligible youth can nominate themselves by completing a questionnaire by Friday 31 May and sending a photo of themselves wearing their favourite pair of Bata shoes.
