More Children living with disability will now be accepted at the Sibongile Day and Night Care Centre, in Khayelitsha, after it opened a new classroom and a new therapy room.

The centre is designed to provide quality physical, emotional and spiritual care to children with Cerebral Palsy while educating community groups through training on acceptance and integration.

The centre was started by Nomasango Xabanisa in 2005 in her home after her daughter was diagnosed with the condition.

Xabanisa said they decided to get a new therapy centre because the one they have is too small.

“We look after 23 children and the new centre will help physiotherapists do their work properly when they visit us,” she said.

She said because of its size, it will help them do one-to-one assessments with the children. “We will be welcoming eight more children in the centre because we now have enough space,” she said.

Xabanisa added that they get a lot of support from the community. She said people see the difference the centre is making to children’s lives.

A mother of one of the children Nolufefe Handula said since her child joined Sibongile last year, she has seen a big difference in her life.

“A lot has changed ever since she started going there, I now have a happy child,” said Handula.

Another parent Unathi Goceni said her child started attending Sibongile when he was three-years-old. He is now he is 10.

“I see a big difference in him and he also enjoys being here. He gets excited when he hears the bell ring in the morning,” said Goceni.
