Residents at the Cyril Ramaphosa informal settlement said they were incensed after a harrowing attack on a young woman left her almost dead.

Zintle Dekile (25) sustained 16 stab wounds to her body after an attack, allegedly at the hands of her sister’s boyfriend.

Residents have vowed to take the law into their hands if the man ever returned there.

The incident played itself out on a Monday morning, a fortnight ago.

Dekile said she was alone in her shack when the man allegedly barged in that morning, asking after her sister, who was out at the time.

Despite her insistence of being ignorant of her whereabouts, the man continued to threaten her with the ‘big knife’ in his hand. She said the man eventually snapped.

Stabbing her on the back, left arm, right hand, head and on the right eyebrow.

Neighbours, hearing her screams, came to her aid.

She was rushed to the KTC Day Hospital in Gugulethu and then later transferred to Lenteguer Hospital in Mitchell’s Plain, before being moved to Groote Schuur Hospital.

In an interview with City Vision, a distraught Dekile said the suspect barged into her shack in the morning and asked for her elder sister, Nolufefe.

She said she repeatedly told the man she did not know her sister’s whereabouts, but he continued threatening her with the “big knife”.

“He said he wanted to kill me so that when Nolufefe arrived back, I’d be dead so she can live a life of regret,” she alleged.

“He threatened to me, my sister and cousin one by one”.

Dekile said she fought her way out by grabbing a pillow, pushing the man away.

Nokhwezi Mgidi, another sister, said she was sleeping when she heard screams, and upon inquiry, found Dekile on the ground , covered in blood. VTo page 3.
