Money is the only obstacle facing the 14-year-old Gugulethu boy from represent South Africa in an international soccer tournament.

Siyanda Mapukatha was selected by the South African Football Association (SAFA) last month as one of the players to represent SA u.14 team at the Kuala Lampur Challenge, in Malayisia, in December.

He needs about R31 500 for the trip which includes accommodation, flights and also soccer boots, a sports bag and a tracksuit.

Siyanda said he never thought he would get a chance to play overseas but he is not sure if he is going because his parents are unemployed. “I’m still shocked that I have a chance to go play overseas,” he said. He added his parents are happy for him but they do not have any means to pay for the trip.

His mother Buyiswa Mapukatha said she is very happy for her child because she knows how much he loves playing soccer.

Buyiswa said they do not know where they will get the money from because she and his father don’t have jobs.

“I feel bad that we do not have the money for his trip because I can see that it is hurting him,” she said.

She appealed to anyone who can help fund the trip to donate whatever they can.
