Apolice officer stationed at Mfuleni Police Station and a co-accused are facing charges of fraud and forgery among others.

The officers aged 44 and 33 appeared in the Stellenbosch Magistrate’s Court last week Thursday.

Hawks spokesperson Captain Philani Nkwalase said one of the accused allegedly gave a false firearm license to a gun shop owner in order to collect a Musgrave rifle she had already paid for.

He said the dealer became suspicious when he saw that the license card was issued to a security company whilst the firearm purchased was a hunting rifle.

Nkwalase said the shop owner informed the police and the suspect was arrested by the Hawks’ Serious Organised Crime Investigation team.

He said the second suspect was arrested on Tuesday last week after allegedly helping the first suspect to secure the firearm license.

Nkwalase said one of the suspects was released on bail while the other one will be applying for bail during the next court date.

. In a separate incident, Harare police spokesperson Captain Siyabulela Vukubi said Harare police officers recovered a hijacked vehicle and an unlicensed firearm last week Wednesday.

He said police were on vehicle patrols at Makhaza when they were notified of a hijacked vehicle in Lwandle, Strand.

Vukubi said the hijackers were spotted driving in the direction of Khayelitsha in a grey Audi A4 and a car chase ensued.

He said a 23-year-old suspect lost control of the vehicle, drove into a yard and he was apprehended. An unlicensed 9mm firearm with eight rounds of ammunition was found in his possession and once charged he is expected to make a court appearance for possession of a hijacked vehicle and unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
