Tebogo Louw, 24, from Stellenbosch who is in the Idols SA Top 8, has been described as an epitome of hope, determination and courage.

After failing to crack the top 16 of Idols season 10 and 11, he never gave up.

Like it is said; third time lucky, he is now in the top eight of Season 12 and it wasn’t an easy road.

Tebogo’s mother Fezeka Louw says for them it was easy to give up, but for Tebogo, this was his year.

“After failing to make it twice, I told him to sit down...leave this idols thing and take a break. I told him: “just stop it for now and let the people and the media forget about you for a while.”

This was not because I didn’t believe in his dream or talent; I just didn’t want him to keep getting hurt if he didn’t make it through. Evidently, I was talking to myself,” she says.

Fezeka says in the previous years, she used to accompany her son for auditions, but this time around Tebogo didn’t even tell her that he was going for the auditions.

“He went alone, and came back with a golden ticket. For me, it meant nothing because we have been here before, but he was sure that this year was his.
Look at how far he has gone now. This just shows that one has to believe in themselves, be hopeful and stay focussed on what you really want,” she says.

She says she first noticed Tebogo’s love of music while doing his Grade 3.

“I would get called in by his class teacher all the time. He didn’t put so much effort in his studies but would just do it quickly to finish and the next thing he will be busy with drums and singing in class. Since then, he hwas been singing and he has learnt to play all the instruments because music is his life.”

Her hope is too see him crowned a South African Idol for this season.

“I want him to go all the way. I believe in him. He has a God-given talent. He is a star and our wish for him is to excel and come out on top. He has always loved music, so seeing him go this far makes me so happy. For him there is nothing else he would rather do. I’m pleading with everyone to please vote for him so he can go all the way.”
