About 30 business owners in various sectors in Mfuleni were presented with graduation certificates at the Chris Hani Community Hall in the area.

The event, last Friday, was the culmination of three days training.

Included in the course was basic business acumen, establishing a company and procedures to follow when bidding for tenders.

True to form, the business owners said the workshop has been a great initiative towards empowerment.

Siphokazi Mnyamana, owner of Ihlumelo LamaQoco Trading Company- which is involved in construction- said they are now armed with basic business sense.

“We were taught how to establish a company and register it on the central data supplier (CDS). And how to apply for tenders in both the City and the provincial goverment,” said Mnyamana.

“Because we didn’t have all the information, some of us thought tenders were only granted to certain individuals, who are connected to leaders. But now that we are well informed, we will know how the process is going,” she stated.

Ward 114 ouncillor Themba Honono said the workshop will assist them to know how to compete, pricing and where to go when they want information.
