As we are fast throttling towards year end, I cannot desist the temptation to reflect on the tumultuous 2017- depending on which side of the fence you are sitting on, anyway.

For many souls, Christmas is the time to spend excessively.

Is it me, or do we really loose focus of the goals we had set for us at the beginning of the year.

The frenzy and the attendant stupor seems to catch us unawares, as if “we did not know” that years start in a particular way and end in peculiar ways.

Something seems to say to us: spend, spend, spend.

We ignore all the lessons learnt from the previous years, which inadvertently lead to starting with a visit to the ever welcoming ‘matshonisas”(loan sharks). I’m not saying do not enjoy any of your hard earned cash. Rather do so wisely, is the word from yours truly.

You might be wondering what the rant is all about.

It is because this time next week, most of the working souls would have received their 13th cheques, that’s bonuses to the lesser mortals and all hell will break loose, it seems.

So take this as that friendly advice and think back to your resolutions to never waste your hard earned dosh.

Stick to them.

So it is to back to the start of the year and its year-long shenanigans. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

Remember the State Of the National Address(SONA 2017).

This one never fails for a bout of entertainment, free of charge. Well ...

It is the day our highly paid comedians draw from their raw reserves to outdo each other inside the nation’s ultimate soap box; parliament.

In anticipation of this great spectacle, even our previous madams and masters took to the streets- with their poodles and Chihuahuas in tow- for a show of their own. Goeie genade. It was unheard of in the past. Even Verwoed must have been frolicking in his relocated grave in Orania. beforeSONA(state of nation address). Then the downgrades turned us into a nation of junkies, if you catch my spliff.

So as we wind down the year, I want to caution that we shouldn’t do things we have not been practising throughout the year. Stay positive!
