The day 21 March is etched in the memories and the calender of most adult South Africans.

Although it is now called Human Rights Day in the country’s Struggle almanac, it has its past in Sharpeville.

On this day, people in Sharpeville responded to a call by PAC leader Robert Sobukwe to defy the Pass Laws by leaving the reviled “Dompass” at home and present their bodies for arrest at the nearest police station. The police responded by opening fire on protesters, thus killing 69 of them and maiming about 191, some for life.

City Vision took to the streets to hear what people, particularly the youth, to hear what Human’s Right Day means to them.
