A crime fight spree by Harare SAPS saw the arrest of two alleged drug and alcohol pushers in Mandela Park on the same day.

According to police the operation was beefed up by members from as far as Worcester on Thursday.

“In one address in 19 block Mandela Park, Khayelitsha at approximately 17:30 police searched the premises and recovered a browning pistol loaded with four rounds. A 38 year old man was arrested for possession of illegal firearm,” said spokesperson Captain Siyabulela Vukubi.

Vukubi added that in an adjacent area in 20 block still in Mandela Park police searched a house and confiscated liquor that was sold illegally.

“A 33 year old man was arrested. Our members moved to Harare area where they searched a house in 38 block and further confiscated liquor that was sold illegally.

A 50 year old woman was arrested. This particular operation was conducted between 15:25 and 16:25,” he said.

Vukubi said that in a separate incident in Harare 35 block, Khayelitsha at approximately 18:15 police confiscated 149 dagga packets that police believe were ready for sale.

“The street value of the dagga was estimated at R1500.00. A 16-year-old boy was arrested for dealing in dagga. All these suspects are expected to appear in Khayelitsha Magistrate Court as soon as they are charged for crimes they were arrested for,” said Vukubi.
