Young Tigers FC from Phola Park is on top of the log after trashing Standard FC from Phase Six 7-0 at Vuyiseka Sport Complex in Philippi East on Sunday 22 September. Both teams are playing in Philippi East League Football Association. Tigers ended the first half leading with four goals to nil.Tigers coach Lunga Mata praised his boys for a great performance. “My boys displayed good football and they were able to manage the game well. But, I think we were not aggressive enough in front of the goals which we need to work on,” said Mata. He said their objective is to finish the season as champions. “I want to play in the Vodacom League next season and that is possible if we can keep the momentum. We want to take each game at a time until we finish our games,” he said adding that they played 24 games and has six left. Standard coach Zane Mapete, who was also part of the squad that was playing, said he was embarrassed that they were beaten with that big score. “Some of my players didn’t pitch for the game. I had eight players for the day and I had to make plans to make nine. I don’t know the whereabouts of other players,” he said adding that they managed to fight. However, he stated that they didn’t play well this season. “We are in position 12 and we played 23 games has seven left. We are hoping that we will bounce back next season,” said Mapete.
