“We encourage locals to come and share the experience with us because one might live in Khayelitsha but only to find they don’t know some of the areas and the history of our beautiful township,” he said.

Matole added they accommodate between two to 20 people per tour and that even though they own six bicycles, they lease out others, as the need need arises.

Lufefe Nomjana, who was the first Khayelitsha resident to experience the cycle tour, said it was unbelievable.

“It was the best experience of Khayelitsha I have ever had, looking at its heritage and learning about its history and social entrepreneurs. And I thought I knew my township but I was surprised while cycling around,” said Nomjana.

He encourages young people to join the tour because it is fun riding a bike and they will also be learning about their township.
