Tragedy should have results

2018-03-01 06:00

It has been a painful experience to follow the Life Esidimeni hearings.

At the last round, the Minister of Health, Dr Aaron Motsoaledi broke down as he apologised to the families of the victims.

Notwithstanding the evidence given by witnesses or whether they showed sympathy or not, the law should take its course. The officials who caused this whole mess must face the full might of the law. We expect the commission to uncover the truth and give recommendations that will bring justice to the families of the victims. Lack of accountability, negligence, greed and irregularities led to this tragedy where innocent lives were lost. I wish all the families could find strength and peace in their hearts.

It’s not easy, but knowing the truth may help them move on.

The hearings have helped shed some light and this will help the families on their healing journey.
