Six suspects are expected to appear in court this week for robbing Uber and Taxify drivers.

Nyanga police station spokesperson Capt Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi said the drivers were robbed on Sunday 9 February and Monday 10 February in Browns Farm Philippi.

She said two suspects, a 15-year-old and a 16-year-old were arrested on Monday after their accomplice requested an e-hailing service and when the driver arrived they robbed him of his valuables and ran away on Sunday.

Sitshitshi said four other suspects aged between 14 and 16 were arrested on Monday night after robbing a Taxify driver.

She said community members, who witnessed the incident, arrested one suspect and called the police.

That led to the arrest of three other suspects. She said all six suspects will appear in Athlone magistrate’s court facing charges of armed robbery.
