A Samora Machel man has been arrested after he allegedly raped his six-year-old niece.
According to police, the 24-year-old was babysitting the child as the mother went to a school meeting in Mitchell's Plain.
“The mother of the victim had attended a school meeting in Mitchell's Plain but when she came back from the meeting, the child was asleep and the suspect said he gave her something to eat,” said Captain Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi.
The following day the child reportedly complained of stomach pains but when her mother questioned her she couldn’t tell.
“Two days later she opened up to her mother, telling her what the uncle had done to her. The suspect was arrested on Monday during a return visit to the family.”
The suspect has appeared in the Wynberg Magistrates Court on rape charges.
Captain Sitshitshi has advised parents to ensure that they leave their children with people they trust.
- In Crossroads, a 13-year-old has been arrested for murder following a fight with another boy.
“The suspect allegedly stabbed a 16-year-old acquaintance on Saturday. The two had an argument while they were playing games in New Rest, Crossroads,” said Sitshitshi.
During the argument, the suspect went home and returned with a knife, with which he stabbed the deceased.
“Although the victim was rushed to hospital, he later succumbed to the injuries.”
