University student is a dud

People should put their voting power to good use rather than voting a political party based on their colour.

That does not constitute freedom of choice and it blinds people to the fact that they have power in their hands if they know how to use it appropriately.

Since when did the colour of your skin determine what political party you should vote for? I am asking this question because that is what someone told me.

Mind you this was a person in their mid 30s, who is a student at one of the universities in Cape Town.

This was shocking to hear such words coming froma supposedly intellectual person.

Why can’t I vote for the political party that I choose and like based on its principles and mandate?

The last time I checked everyone had a right to vote for whatever political party they want.

That is in the Constitution or was it put there just for show only?

This person claims that we are in a democratic country but insists that I can’t vote for the DA because I am Black.

She condemned me for my political choices and affiliations and argued that I should vote for the ANC because it’s a ‘Black political party’.

If these are the only reasons why I should vote for the ANC, then I would decline my vote with respect.

It is disappointing to see and hear people say that to me on multiple occasions as if I’m committing a sin voting for the DA. I challenge their intellectual integrity, especially my fellow university colleagues. Look Up The Constitution and then comment!
