The Nyanga Development Forum (NDF) has condemned the recent break-in at the Nyanga library and called on the residents to speak out against crime in the area. The incident happened on Saturday 16 May. Among others, thieves stole a microwave, a fridge, a sound system, CDs, DVDs and destroyed the roller shutter. It is believed the criminals gained entry by vandalising the front door. NDF secretary Khwezi Tyamtyam described the incident as a setback for the community. “The burglary has a negative impact on the community and also to the staff. Losing such valuable equipment is a drawback,” he said. Tyamtyam urged residents to stop buying stolen items. “We need to work together as a community and ensure that we close the market of selling stolen goods,” he said. He added that it seems as if the criminals knew what they were doing and what they wanted. “They knew exactly what was inside.”Nyanga police station spokesperson Capt Ntomboxolo Sitshitshi said a case of burglary is being investigated and anyone who might have information is requested to contact Nyanga police station.
