Visit prompts positive vibes

2017-12-21 06:00

Earlier this week the National Deputy Minister of Police, Bongani Mkongi and I visited Khayelitsha to hold stakeholder engagements with all roleplayers reporting to the Ministry of Police.

The purpose of these engagements is to profile all the roleplayers and to raise awareness about their functions and roles. The occasion was also used to introduce Judge SD Kgomo who recently joined the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, also known as the Hawks, to the community. Residents used the opportunity to raise a number of concerns pertaining to safety in the area.

I made specific reference to the need for more police stations in the area, as the last one was built in 1987. The population has grown quite significantly since then and the current police stations are unable to cope with the needs of the ever increasing numbers of people in Khayelitsha.

Furthermore, it has been confirmed that my request for more resources, including police stations, has been noted and the Ministry has been notified and is awaiting feedback on these requests. I am committed to the community and will work towards ensuring the safety of all our residents.
