WCLA reaching out

Communities are encouraged to contact the Western Cape Liquor Authority (WCLA) regarding any non-compliant or irresponsible liquor trading.

From 01 April 2016 – 30 June 2016 WCLA partnered with SAPS and conducted 59 interventions, mainly with liquor licence holders in the form of education sessions where we asked these attendees to sign a register as proof of their attendance. Attendees were encouraged to contact the WCLA offices for advice in order to comply with the liquor legislation.

WCLA inspectors visited 1 233 licensed premises and conducted 11 integrated enforcement operations. Out of the 8 non-complying licence holders discovered, 4 licences were revoked, one licence was suspended and fines to the value of R180 000 were issued.

With immediate effect, it is compulsory for all new applicants to attend training at the WCLA offices before a licence is approved. Last year the WCLA moved from Cape Town to Bellville to be more accessible to clients.
