LETTERS: “...where kids are addicted monsters

2016-02-04 06:00

I was robbed at gun point by boys between the ages of 24-28 years, at the Makaza Wetland Park last November.

These boys were my kids ages and they dehumanised me psychologically and stripped me naked in front of 9-12 year olds, who I would consider my grandchildren.

Every fragment and some bits of dignity that I assumed I had was stripped off.

For a few days, I did not feel safe walking the streets of the ghetto next to ours- especially walking past boys standing or sitting at the street corner. Boys fitting their description scare me.

You can imagine, the whole of Khayelitsha is full of boys that fit that description. As fate would have it; all the goods that they robbed from me belonged to an NGO that I worked for, and, worse, my contract was coming to an end in a few weeks time. How I wished those boys understood the triple dilemma they were putting me through. Besides having a gun pointed at my zip, and in a frozen state of shock, I picked myself up and left.

I doubted if my bosses would believed my story, so after the robbery I went straight to the nearest police station to report the crime.

They asked for the phone and the data projector’s serial numbers and they said without these numbers they could not open a case. To add salt to injury they said, there was only two police vans available at that moment, but were not even in the yard.

Imagine an area that covers half the population of Khayelitsha!

Townships are a hell hole designed for blacks to eventually turn on each other. I must say that I am privileged to have the services of a psychologist, as a means to try and instil some form of self-esteem and confidence.

The stinking, sinking township. I am not angry at those black kids, I’m angry at the conditions that turned our children into unthinking, zombified, drug addicted monsters!! Im angry at the ANC and the DA for maintaining ill-gotten white privilege
