Wits players to get bonuses

2016-10-06 06:00

Bidvest Wits’ players will reportedly receive half of the R8m prize money the club earned after beating Mamelodi Sundowns 3-0 in the recent MTN8 final.

Gavin Hunt’s men demolished Sundowns on their way to winning the lucrative tournament, after a brace from Daine Klate and a goal from Eleazar Rodgers.

While the Clever Boys will collect a handsome R8m for their efforts, the Brazilians take a more miserly R800 000 cash prize for finishing as runners-up.

Wits CEO Jose Ferreira has confirmed that the club’s players will be rewarded for their efforts, and that bonuses will be paid out in due course.

“Yes, obviously the team will be receiving bonuses! We did not discuss bonuses before the final and we never will,” he told Soccer Laduma:

“We discuss these matters after the final. It hasn’t been discussed with the players yet, but we will.”

The publication also claimed that R4m would be divided among the players, with the club pocketing the other half of the cash prize. However, the bonus amounts will reportedly differ from player to player, based on the strength of their individual performances in the competition.
