A 28 year old woman was arrested after Philippi East SAPS conducted crime prevention patrols and received information about alleged illegal drug activity.

The police members proceeded to Block A, Phola Park, where they noticed a number of men unloading large bags of dagga from a vehicle, a white Toyota sedan.

Upon noticing the police, the men fled the scene in various directions, but police gave chase and arrested a 28 year old man who resides in the area.

Five large bags of dagga were seized and the value thereof is estimated at R200 000.

The man is to appear in the Philippi Magistrates’ Court on Monday 2017-03-06 on charges related to the dealing in and the possession of drugs.

Later the same morning at approximately 06:40 members of the Western Cape Public Order Police also responded to information and searched a residence in Vietnam Drive, Marcus Garvey, Philippi East. Tik weighing 545 g, with an estimated value of R120 000, was seized, and a 28 year old woman was arrested. She is to appear in the Philippi Magistrates’ Court on Monday 2017-03-06, on charges related to dealing in drugs.

The abuse of illegal substances is one of the main contributing factors to fuelling crimes against women and children. The Philippi East SAPS management believe that if they can combat the abuse of illegal substances, they will be able to address and reduce property-related and contact crimes effectively.
