A young artist from Gugulethu is appealing to the community to assist him with donations of art equipment. Litha Mayiya (16) from NY100 in Gugulethu said he is struggling to showcase his talent as he doesn’t have enough resources for drawing.

A Grade 10 learner from ID Mkhize High School said he started painting at the age of nine and since then he never looked back.

“I became serious on painting at the age of 12, that’s when my family and surrounding people started supporting me,” he said adding that he specialises in painting celebrities.

Mayiya described his paintings as his way of conveying a message to the public. “I’m a reserved person. I like to be alone. So sometimes when I’m angry I just take a pen and paper draw whatever comes up into my mind,” said Mayiya.

The self-trained artist said he needs a professional artist to guide him doing his art.

He said for now he is doing art for his school portfolio.

“I don’t sell my stuff, but if there is anyone who asks me to do something special for him I do so. After I finishing my matric I’m planning to go to a school of art so I can develop my knowledge,” he stated adding that he wants to be a professional artist.

In his collection, he has paintings of an American rapper Tupac and Notorious B.I.G together with Portuguese footballer Ronaldo. And he is busy drawing former presidents Nelson Mandela and F W De Klerk holding hands.. Anyone would like to assists can contact him on 076 772 9761
