SIVE MJIKELO says: “Being a youth in 2018 presents many opportunities and responsibilities as well. These days, there’s a lot that surround us and influences in the lives of young people. There’s a lot that youths can get involved in, like sport, education and fun, but it all depends on one’s choices. That which you get involved in may determine your future, whether it is negative or positive, so it is all up to you.” PHOTOS: MZWANELE MKALIPI

Mzantsi commemorates Youth Day on Saturday (16 June), a day which has been synonymous with the death of Hector Peterson.

The young man was fatally shot by the apartheid police during the infamous Soweto Uprising of 1976, when black South Africans protested against an order which would make Afrikaans compulsory in all public schools.

Scores of youths were injured and killed in the massacre.

City Vision took to the streets to pulse young people about what it means to be a youth in 2018 – 42 years after the day young people took to the streets to fight for their rights.
