THE 1860 Indentured Labourers Foundation Verulam held an outreach programme at Waterloo Primary School in Verulam to commemorate the 156th anniversary of the arrival of S.S. Truro recently

The 1860 Indentured Labourers Foundation Verulam is a non profit organisation that aims to preserve the history and heritage of their forefathers.

In order to commemorate and mark the arrival of S.S. Truro, the foundation has been hosting outreach programmes annually for several years. This is done in the spirit of Ubuntu and to promote social cohesion. This year Waterloo Primary School was selected for this purpose. The members of the foundation visited the school and distributed gift parcels to 86 Grade R pupils.

The gift parcel consisted of a lunch box packed with sweets and chocolates, a t-shirt, a football, as well as a pencil and ruler set. Anand Jayrajh, an executive member and the media liaison officer of the foundation, addressed the pupils and informed them of the historical significance of the indentured labourers and delivered an inspiring speech emphasising the importance of education. - Supplied.
