MY name is Shantal Mungal - I am one of the managing members at Apollos Academy and the principal/educator.

We are an Early Childhood Development Centre operating as a Non-Profit Organisation, caring for the specific needs of children under six years old.

It has been my passion in life to provide a safe, caring environment where children are allowed to be ‘children’.

It saddens me that our future generation cannot enjoy the most important discoveries and necessary life experiences which would mould them into confident young minds building a brighter future, hence my desire to provide such an environment.

I have thus left a long career in accounting to pursue childcare services. We keep our classes very small with a maximum of 15 learners.

This allows us to work individually with children and meeting their specific needs.

The playschool caters for the ages of one to six years. At our school we follow the national curriculum that covers language, art, music, life skills, science, numeracy and movement.

These areas are absolutely vital for a child’s well-rounded development including their social independence. We want to create an environment for each child to feel ‘at home.’

However, every aspect of their day is carefully co-ordinated to develop the learning experience.

It is understood that the most crucial learning periods in a child’s life to develop the cognitive, socio-emotional and physical skills, are from birth to eight years.

This is a time when they develop their curiosity, problem solving, purpose, flexibility and verbal and non-verbal skills.

It is a time when they gain confidence, show co-operation, negotiate, share, become empathetic and learn how to communicate freely.

They develop fine motor and gross motor skills. It’s not just ‘play time’, these are skills for life.

We therefore believe that every child has the right to access a skilled teacher in a safe environment through their formative, learning years.

Our aim at Apollos Academy is to create an equally beneficial environment allowing our children the freedom to explore and discover their true potential.

To help a child acquire positive lifelong attitudes toward themselves, toward others and toward learning, does not necessarily mean that formal academic instruction is the key.

The playschool environment can go a long way towards realising these essential outcomes.

We would like to realise our vision of an ECD facility that offers a playschool, a learn-through-play experience that is both enjoyable and is tailored to the individual needs of our children, however, we can only do that with your support.
