TONGAAT actor, director and producer, Neresha Sukreem is on top of the world after her movie won the 48 Hour Film Project in Durban recently.

Sukreem is now en-route to showcase her work at the Filmapalooza Film Festival in the USA next year, which should her movie, Agent 301, win will mean automatic entry into the Cannes Film Festival.

An excited Sukreem described the 48 Hour Film Project as a wild and sleepless weekend in which her team had to make a movie from start to finish, from writing, scoring and editing in 48 hours.

The biggest challenge she says was turning all the ideas into reality

“The film has to be eight minutes long including credits. the challenge with that is having to keep your story to the point in keeping with the genre and including all the necessary requirements,” said Sukreem.

The 48 hour movies had to use a specific line of dialogue, prop and character which was only revealed after the teams chose a genre.

This year the prop was a sock, the line was “Aiyboh man, just shake it off and move on” and the character was Jane or John Bradshaw who is a real estate agent.

Agent 031 is about a real estate sales executive, who in order to maintain his record of the highest sales, works as a spy, doing background research at his client’s residence to sell her what seems a home made for her.

Sukreem has been passionate about the arts from the age of three when she started with speech and drama and continued her progression in the field through her schooling.

Eventually this took her to Mumbai where she studied and qualified as a professional actress.

Her aim now is to pursue directing, producing and acting.

“There are very few women that are in the industry in Durban and I aim to be one of the first female directors and actresses to make a mark in the industry and along the journey create opportunities for other budding actors, directors and producers,” said Sukreem.

Sukreem is also passionate about dance and recently opened her own production company called NSA Production and dance studio called the NSA Dance Studio.

The studio offers various dance forms for children, adults and senior citizens.

“It is my aim to develop young children and adults in the field of arts with my skills and expertise. I have been blessed to travel and learn from professionals and I believe in giving back and sharing knowledge which I am able to do through my dance studio,” said Sukreem.

She said she hopes to see more young children embracing the arts.

Sukreem thanked her parents, Anoop and Loshni Sukreem for their support as well as her brother Prenay Sukreem and her team from NSA productions for their work on the film.

“Without the team this win would not have been possible,” said Sukreem.
