A DURBAN policeman was involved in a collision with a provincial ambulance vehicle at the weekend.

According to Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa) head Prem Balram, paramedics were dispatched to Umdloti Beach Road, after receiving reports of a collision.

“Five people had to be transported to hospital after an Opel Corsa collided with a provincial ambulance. The driver of the Opel Corsa, who is a Durban-based policeman, sustained critical injuries and was trapped in the vehicle. The road had to be closed to allow paramedics to stabilise him before removing him from the vehicle.”

Balram added that both vehicles were travelling in opposite directions at the time of the collision.

“It is alleged that the driver of the Opel Corsa failed to negotiate a bend and collided with the ambulance however this cannot be confirmed,” added Balram
