The time for joy, celebration, festivity and spreading goodwill is almost upon us.

As we prepare to celebrate Diwali in our homes why not also join in the biggest celebration hosted in Verulam.

The Verulam and Districts United Hindu Forum (VDUHF) in its aim to educate, enlighten and empower Hindus through joint activities and functions will once again be hosting the Verulam Diwali Festival.

The inaugural event last year attracted an audience of over 1 000 people and the number is expected to increase this year. The festival takes place on Friday, October 13 at the open grounds opposites the Om Hari Sabha Temple, Everest Heights, Verulam, commencing at 6pm.

This years event which will be hosted by well-known personality Ravin Jankipersad promises to be bigger and better with a evening of great fun and entertainment lined up. The programme will consist of musical and dance renditions by both young and senior members of the various organizations affiliated to the VDUHF.

This will be followed by entertainment by Praneel and Dharam of PD Events and Guru Samlan Sarugesar, catering for patrons of the different linguistic groups.

The evening will also include a bangra bash. There will also be a kiddies corner with colouring competitions, face painting etc. and flea market stalls.

Entry to this event is absolutely FREE and meals will be provided. Free transport will also be provided with pick up points being on the bus routes in Redcliffe, Oaklands, Trenance Park and Mountview areas.

A sponsored fireworks display will also be held and an appeal is made to those living in the Everest Heights area and have pets, to please take the necessary precautions for their safety during the festival.

The Verulam Deepavali Hamper group which is an affiliate of the VDUHF are raising funds to provide hampers to 2000 needy families.
